Virgin Atlantic have 12 Boeing 747-400 aircraft in our fleet, operating out of Gatwick, manchester, Heathrow, and the seasonal flights out of Glasgow, and is primarily used for the leisure flights to the Caribbean.

The 747-400 can carry up to 452 passengers, with our 3 class configuration. It was entered into service in 1994 with G-VFAB "Lady Penelope" (image left)

The Airbus A340-600 is the largest aircraft in the Virgin Atlantic fleet, with 19 of these aircraft based at London Heathrow, this aircraft is used for the most popular routes.

The A340-600 is can carry up to 308 passengers in our 3 class configuration. The A346 was brought into service in 2002, shortly after it was release by Airbus. It can fly up to 7,900 nautical miles and has an average cruising speed of mach 0.83

The Airbus A340-300 is the oldest aircraft in our active fleet being first released in 1993, with 6 of these aircraft, it is used for the less popular routes or sometimes used as a backup aircraft.

The A340-300 is soon to be taken out of service with the arrival of our new Airbus A330-300's. Which will then take over the routes of the retired A340-300.

The Airbus A330-300 is Virgin Atlantic newest aircraft in our fleet with its maiden flight on 2nd April 2011 from MAN to MCO, we currently have two active in our fleet and with various others being delviered over the next two years.

The A330-300 is currently operating on leisure routes out of Manchester and will be gradually replacing the A340-300 fleet.

The new plane will use 15% less fuel per seat than the airline's A340-300 aircraft, delivering Virgin Atlantic's commitment to flying a lower carbon fleet.
