Virgin Atlantic Virtual is one of the most modern and advanced Virtual Airlines in Europe to date. Virgin Atlantic Virtual recreates the real world operations of Virgin Atlantic Airways as close as possible using Flight Simulator software.

The main hubs for Virgin Atlantic Virtual are London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Manchester; from here we fly to many far afield airports such as San-Francisco in the west, Tokyo in the far east and Cape Town, South Africa all daily from London Heathrow. From London Gatwick and Manchester we fly to many Caribbean destinations such as Barbados, St. Lucia and Antigua.

So far Virgin Atlantic Virtual has flown thousands of highly satisfied virtual passengers around the world in our modern fleet of Airbus A340s and Boeing 747's.

Virgin Atlantic Virtual was set up in May 2010 by Joshua John. There was no realistic Virgin Atlantic Airline around so Josh decided to fill that niche and provided simmers with Virgin Atlantic Virtual. Within a few days of the domain being registered and the site being launched many pilots began registering even when the airline wasn't officially launched. At first many of the first pilots that registered were refused as the VA wasn't opened but due to the huge interest the VA was launched a few days later.

Within a month of launching over a hundred pilots had registered. With Joshua struggling with the amount of pilots and trying to improve the website while also updating schedules and adding new features the arrival of Jake Wright (later to become CEO) who brought in and updated the schedules in real time (as Virgin Atlantic added/removed routes so did we) and Ross Burke who did a lot of website coding helped relieve a lot of pressure and soon Virgin Atlantic Virtual was one of the fastest growing VAs around.

Over the next few months saw major improvements to Virgin Atlantic Virtual including the launch of a brand new website. Although there were quite a few delays which resulted in the launch date being moved back twice, the new website was officially launched on 1st December 2010 and was a huge success with both pilots and staff.

Unfortunately a few months later around mid-February a dispute between two staff members one of which created and designed both the website and custom system we used stepped down and demanded over £200 from us immediately and failure to pay they would remove our website (they were also hosting us). Luckily for us about a week before due to the rise in conflicts between the two staff members and the Board in secret Joshua and a friend of his began coding the same website design to a new free system called "phpVMS" which we managed to complete just in time. Around 25th February 2011 one of the staff members in this dispute accessed our server and deleted all our files which caused our website to be down for around 5 days.

Our website re-launched on 1st March using a recent backup but now using the phpVMS system unfortunately due to the fact that we had to switch to phpVMS and that our files were deleted it caused us to lose a lot of files, although we still had quite a recent backup of our database with all our pilots details we were unable to transfer all the details from the custom system to phpVMS which meant pilots had to re-register. Luckily for us over half of our pilots re-registered within a few days and understood the situation we were in and were fully supportive.
